Tomorrow my Paper Therapy scrapbook club meets at my house for chocolate and paper crafting. It’s always a fun time and in addition to providing a great school-themed kit this month, I’ll be showing them this layout based on the kit we’ll be using in October:
How gorgeous are those papers?! It’s the So Sophie line from My Mind’s Eye, such classic colours and perfect for this layout of my sister, mom and me out blueberry picking. Can you see the resemblance?
I used this sketch from the My Mind’s Eye blog for their layout challenge #27:
My sister and I are only seventeen months apart and our kids (three each) are close in age so we’ve become best friends over the years. She’s quiet with a snarky side and we tend to riff off of each other – we can really get on a roll with smart remarks, and our mom has always been the “cool mom” to our friends – fun to be with and a great listener. So we had a blast picking berries out in the mountains – the northern end of the Rocky Mountains are just a couple hours west of our home and it’s beautiful out there!
A little about the process in creating this layout: I spent way too much time fussy cutting the branch, and I was scared I’d decide I didn’t like it on the layout, but I love it. I covered it with Rock Candy crackle medium (Ranger) and the Kaisercraft wooden keyhole was covered in crackle paint in Antique Linen. I pulled the mini pinecones off a tree out in the yard, it’s not a pine at all, it’s one of the alders that line the yard (I kind of hate them, actually.)
I had fun with the journaling strips – they document my mom’s crazy passion for huckleberry picking and the outcome of our day’s adventure.
The last two lines (not shown) say “but it was a beautiful day/and we loved spending the day together.” My jaw still aches a little when I think of how we laughed that day. I have some great photos of the six cousins together that will be scrapped next!
