Fresh snow.
Sun and beautiful azure shadows.

These three factors were the perfect combination for me to harvest more reference photos for my back-burner John Deere painting project. A couple of weeks ago, I found some more old John Deere tractors, exactly the kind I have had in mind to feature in a future painting. I’ve been waiting since then for the right conditions to photograph them, and I was a little worried that the day I had the weather on my side, the owner wouldn’t be home to give his permission. It’s a lot more exciting to plan a painting when you know you have what you need to get started – namely, good reference photos. And if I need a little extra detail information, my inspiration is just a 5 minute drive away.
