Travel to Dawson Creek:
Fly in to Fort St. John, BC (74 km/46 miles) north of Dawson Creek
or Grande Prairie, Alberta (130 km/81 miles) east of Dawson Creek
Be aware that winter weather can make driving conditions difficult and plan extra time for travel. Provincial law requires the use of snow tires from October to April.
Things to Do:
Winter in the north requires either an adventurous spirit or a love for good books by a warm fire! Bring warm clothing as temperatures can drop to -40 (although the average for February is -11C (12F).
With sunrise around 8:30am and sunset about 6pm, you just might see the northern lights (aurora borealis)!
The Bear Mountain Nordic Ski Club grooms 20 km of trails just 10 minutes southwest of the city. Cross country skiing is one of my favourite ways to enjoy winter and stay active when it’s cold.
Downhill skiing at Powder King Ski Resort, 210 km (130 mi) west of Dawson Creek.
Swimming at Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre.
