A Free Watercolor Workshop for even the Rawest Beginner

At the foundation of every painting I create is the love of watercolour. It’s a beautiful, maddening, accident-loving medium. What other medium has the ability to move and mix with such beauty, transparency, delicacy and complexity?

It never surprises me that other people want to try watercolour. Shouldn’t everyone? It’s so beautiful! (If you’re keeping score, that’s the third time I’ve used that word, and it can’t be helped. It’s true!)

What’s holding you back from trying watercolor today?

Lack of talent? An eye for beauty and willingness to practice are all that’s required.

Mystified by materials? I have a guide for that.

No time? You can grow skill (and provide yourself with valuable time for self-care) in just 15-30 minutes, a few times a week.

What’s left? Maybe an understanding of how watercolor works, what the basic techniques are and a few assignments to help you know where to start? Would a free workshop help?

Watercolor Beginner Bootcamp is your “splash course” in watercolor!

Join me January 28, 29, and 30, 2021 for three live sessions aimed at introducing new painters to this beautiful medium of watercolor. I want to show you why watercolor matters and help you get started on your way to making art you truly love. For far too long, art has been reserved for the “gifted,” when it holds deep satisfaction and therapeutic benefit for ALL people.

There is a peace that comes over you when you are deeply absorbed in creative work. It’s a stillness and a presence that feels like coming alive. Whether or not you ever make great paintings, you need this in your life.

In the workshop, you will learn:

  • the nature of watercolor - how it works and why

  • how even “non-creative” people can make amazing art

  • what supplies to use and how to identify the “good stuff” in the art supply store

  • which rules to follow in art (and which ones to break!)

  • the basic techniques; how to create washes, prevent blooms, and the role control plays in watercolor

  • common trouble spots and how to prevent them

  • and we’ll paint an entire painting, start to finish!

This workshop is absolutely free and open to everyone! All you need to do to join is sign up here:

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there any cost to join? No, the workshop is absolutely free.

Do I need any special supplies? Use what you have! A basic watercolor kit and the best paper you can afford (100% cotton) are my recommendations.

What if I can’t watch the live sessions? No problem! Your workshop link will also give you access to the session replays, and they never expire.
