This painting comes with a fun story! I was painting in Northeast Harbor, Maine, and as I sketched the pier before me, a man came up the ramp from the dock and jokingly offered to pose for me. I always take such comments in earnest, and told him he’d asked for it, and with a flick of my brush, I gestured him into the painting.

It didn’t look much like a person at first, but as I looked at the brushstrokes, I could see a body emerge, and with the addition of a head, my fisherman came to life and the painting did too! I’m starting to wonder if I’m going to need to add people into my paintings more often!
