New Opportunities: Teaching Art at School

I try to say "yes" to as many opportunities as possible, so I didn't have to think very long when I was asked to work on an art project with grades 4-7 at a school in my community. Today was my first morning working with the kids, and I'll be joining the class for two hours, twice a week for a few weeks. I really haven't worked with kids a lot (aside from my own), but in the last year or so, I've realized that I really enjoy teaching kids for their enthusiasm and responsiveness. Kids are very courageous when it comes to art, and so it's neat to see how they attack their projects. My own children are home schooled, so I was delighted when they were invited to join me in the classroom for these sessions. It's great for them to be a part of a classroom setting and get a glimpse of what it might be like to attend a "real school". We were a little jealous of the wealth of resources the class enjoys; the large computers and iPads that seemed to be everywhere, and the well stocked library, which I'm sure is small by school standards, but enormous to us.

It will be a fun, busy few weeks, but whenever I can share a love of art, I am happy to do so.
