Winter Wonder Watercolor Painting & Class
How easy it is to love snow! At least, when you are indoors, gazing out on a diamond-crusted world, or slicing through fresh powder on a set of wicked-fast skis. Maybe not so much when you are shoveling out from a snowbank after sliding off the road...but I digress. I love painting snow because it's such a great way to explore the contours of the land, the effects of sun and shadow and use my favourite shades of blue. I have a thing for painting with blue and violet that is indulged in a big way when I paint the hues of winter.
I've been taking a break from making new online classes. The courses I created in fall, "Watercolour Sketches" and "Loose & Fluid Watercolour II" are both such excellent courses and really round out my class listings, so I didn't want to launch anything new for a while. Plus I'm working on other projects that take a lot of my attention, and sometimes it feels like there's barely time to paint for myself. But I couldn't let the Christmas season go by without sharing at least a lesson on painting winter scenes. Last year's Holiday Mini Course felt like the beginning of a tradition, so I just had to make it a tradition by launching another "mini" course this month.
The painting above is titled "Winter Wonder" and it's one of two demonstrations I recorded in my "Winter Wonder Snow Scene Class." I took one reference photo and created two versions of the same scene. The first one is detailed and focused on values, and the second is kind of an inspired "wrap up" of everything I learned from the first painting.
In addition, I share a short video where I profile the blues in my palette and talk about my favourite ways to use them. There's a new hue I've been crushing on lately that I think will surprise you!
As a bit of a Christmas gift, I'm giving this course away! During the month of December, if you make a course purchase of any amount, you will get the "Winter Wonder Lesson" free. Make your purchase here, and then watch your email for your free enrollment code, which you can keep or give away. "Winter Wonder Snow Scene Class" is priced at $20 USD ($25 CAD). Just like all my online courses, you can log in and take the class anytime, at your own pace, and you get lifetime enrollment, so you can watch the course videos over and over again.
